15th APRIL 2010 Be inspired by the peace and beauty of Salisbury Cathedral, one of England’s finest with the country’s tallest spire plus many hidden treasures such as the best preserved original Magna Carta. Unfortunately there is now a ‘voluntary’ donation entrance scheme of £4.25 for those who wish to visit (pay individually). We will spend some time in Salisbury where you can have lunch at one of the numerous pubs or cafes, and then go on to Wilton House. This was granted by Henry VIII to William Herbert and is now run by the present 18th Earl of Pembroke, 15th Earl of Montgomery. Within the house is a fabulous collection of art including works by Rembrandt, Brueghel and Van Dyck and a glorious gallery of Roman, Greek and 17th century sculpture. Entry to the house/gardens must be booked and paid for in advance.
