PEAK DISTRICT 13 SEPTEMBER 17 SEPTEMBER 2010

We have organised a 5 day mini break to the beautiful Peak District Derbyshire and will leave early Monday morning.  There will be welcome tea and coffee on arrival at the hotel   This break is based on four nights accommodation, cooked breakfast and 4 course dinner at the Buxton Palace Hotel Buxton owned by Barcelo Hotels. There are free leisure facilities within the Hotel.   Barcelo Hotels are all 4 star and amongst hotels they own is the famous Lygon Arms Broadway.  You can look up the hotel on www.barcelo-hotels.co.uk   Buxton is a beautiful town deep in the Peak District and you will have plenty of time to explore it. 

Included in our mini break will be a visit to Chatsworth House.  2010 will be a very special year. A new visitor route round the house, exciting new displays of rare treasures and an exhibition celebrating the 90^th birthday of Deborah Devonshire, the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, the last surviving Mitford sister.    The visit will include both the House and the garden.  Highlights of the new display will include the most spectacular ever of an array of family portraits spanning 450 years, on the walls of the restored Oak staircase, and the life and tastes of Duchess Georgiana reflected in new permanent displays of portraits, furniture and works of art she commissioned or acquired, many not seen by visitors before. 

Another excursion will be to the Heights of Abraham.   Ascent is by cable car and the ticket will include entry to the Caverns and Hilltop Park.   The Cavern is lit by a single miner’s candle so the whole chamber is awash with colour, you can now experience firsthand the spectacular cavern system as it has never been seen before.  With the help of a brand new state of the art lighting installation the guide will take you on a fascinating journey deep into the hillside and back in time through the cavern’s history.
